Highlights

  • Proactivity begins with relevant, authorized signals.
  • A business agenda supplies direction; a signal alone does not.
  • Review and retained context connect one work cycle to the next.

From responding to carrying work forward

A useful assistant can answer a request. A company also needs continuity between requests: noticing a relevant change, remembering why it matters, coordinating the next action, and checking what actually happened. Runtime is our product approach to that problem. This article describes its design principles, not a comparative benchmark or a guarantee of business outcomes.

Proactive is not the same as unbounded

Proactive work starts from selected signals and confirmed goals. A connected source may reveal a recurring question or a teammate may return a deliverable. Runtime needs to relate that event to the current agenda before treating it as useful work. Access to a source does not authorize every action involving it. Missing goals, uncertain evidence and consequential choices should become questions for the administrator.

A continuous work cycle

The cycle is notice, connect, coordinate, review and carry forward. First, identify a relevant signal from an authorized source. Next, consult company context and the administrator’s priorities. Assign scoped work to a specialist when a useful next step is established. Review the saved result rather than accepting a completion announcement as proof. Finally, retain accepted findings, unresolved questions and useful lessons for the next follow-up.

What anticipation should mean

Anticipation is a design aim: recognizing an emerging need early enough to offer a useful next step. It is not clairvoyance. Repeated customer questions might suggest an onboarding gap, but that remains a hypothesis until examined. The appropriate response may be an internal investigation or a question, rather than an external action. A system should show the evidence supporting its proposal and remain open to correction.

The administrator stays in the loop

Runtime coordinates specialists and brings meaningful results or required decisions back to the administrator. Reviews, approvals and messages serve different purposes: a completed internal analysis may need a short update, while an external commitment requires the appropriate authorization. Initiative should reduce the effort of managing work without removing the person responsible for the company’s direction.

How to evaluate the idea

A credible evaluation should measure relevant signal selection, correct use of retained context, assignment clarity, deliverable quality, permission compliance and recovery after interruptions. It should also measure unnecessary notifications and duplicated work. These are proposed evaluation dimensions, not results reported here. Product reliability and usefulness must be demonstrated under realistic conditions, including stale information, conflicting evidence and missing answers.

A different rhythm for company work

The ambition is practical: fewer lost handoffs, fewer repeated explanations, and clearer connections between an agenda and the work that follows. Runtime brings these steps into one ongoing relationship with the company, while preserving uncertainty and human control.
